The group that convened at the 2005 McGraw-Hill Media Summit in New York was high-powered, diverse, opinionated, and ready to tackle the theme of the 2-day affair: Global Media + Technology Innovation = Communications Revolution. Approximately 750 attendees came from venture capital firms, digital rights management companies, content creators, and every other conceivable corner of the media world to discuss the current state of the industry as well as what we can look forward to in the coming months and years. A few trends and big-picture words of advice rose to the top over the course of the summit. They included the roles of globalization and fragmentation, the increasing importance of branding as choices for consumers hit an all-time high, and the value of making the consumer's experience a positive one—whether through emotion, high-value content, or trust from past interactions.
