Back to (Summer) School

Now that the long, wonderful days of June have arrived, our minds are undoubtedly filled with thoughts of summer... vacations, special projects, and a relaxed pace. But for many information professionals, particularly in the academic world, summer is a chance to spend time on education, improving skills, or learning something new. And plenty of summer schools, symposia, and workshops are available. Presentations at these events are distinguished from traditional conferences since experts in the field are teaching in interactive settings. Many are more in-depth, occur over longer time frames, and take place in attractive locations. Planning vacations around them is ideal. (Note, however, that many summer educational courses are accelerated because of the short time available to cover the material, so plan accordingly.)
