I came home from work the other day and found a box from Amazon.com sitting on my front porch. Happy-happy, joy-joy! But I really couldn't remember ordering anything recently, so this was somewhat of a mystery. When I took the box inside and opened it, I remembered what it was. It was the new edition of Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace that I had preordered many moons ago. This is a new translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky, the husband-and-wife team who translated Anna Karenina, which is my favorite book of all time. (I try to reread it every few years. Anna still keeps making the same bad decisions, which is why I identify with her so strongly.)
