Back to the Future for Publishers and Content Management

Here we are at the end of 2007, and content management for publishers is as fragmented as it was in the early days of the Web. Pub- lishers still have to organize their workflows around the capabilities of discrete single-source, print, and Web CMS products. The three types of systems usually live separate and loosely coupled lives. Files might be sent back and forth among them, but users typically work in one system at a time. In fact, most publisher users usually work only in one type of system. Let's review the basic systems as they exist today.
