As the 2010-2011 president of ALA, Roberta Stevens has hit the ground running doing her part to ensure a successful future for libraries.rnStevens, who is outreach projects and partnerships officer at the Library of Congress and project manager for the National Book Festival, began her term as ALA president in August after her June inauguration in Washington, D.C. In her new post, Stevens is the chief spokesperson for ALA and represents "the interests and concerns of school, public, academic and special libraries."rnShe sees herself "[a]s their primary 'face and voice,'" she says. "I must be fully aware of the issues they confront each day and the long-term effects of developments occurring on a national and international level." Not surprisingly, one of the key issues that libraries face is the impact of the economic downturn, according to Stevens.
