SMX West 2010: Nature of Search Is Shifting

Attendance at the third Search Marketing Expo (SMX) West conference and expo was up 50% over the previous year, despite the onset of the southern California rainstorms in early March. The number of vendors at the Santa Clara Convention Center for the event was about 20% less than last year, but the square footage in the expo hall was still the same. Although business overall may not be growing, the increased attendance is consistent with the 46% growth in searches worldwide for 2009, according to statistics from comScore. There were more than 131 billion searches done in December 2009, translating to 4 billion searches per day, 175 million searches per hour, and 2.9 million searches per minute.
