摘要

A recent study by Janet C. Dunlop, PhD, of Oklahoma State University, finds strong perpetuation of gender and racial stereotypes among popular computer games, raising implications for the socialization of young children. The study, "The U.S. Video Game Industry: Analyzing Representation of Gender and Race," appeared in a recentissue of the International Jaurnal of Technology and Human Interaction (IJTHI), a peer-reviewed scientific research quarterly published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.). Address- ing this common element of many U.S. households, the article discusses pertinent issues such as the prevalence of white-male hero figures and violence, focusing on the implications of racial diversity and stereotypes and the under-representation of women in top-selling video games.
