摘要

Three-dimensional imagery is critical to many medical procedures and, ultimately, to the health of the patient. This article examines ways that 3D imagery is making a difference and what clinicians need and expect as the technology continues to evolve. Medical- Images are now almost exclusively acquired by using digital systems. Large two-dimensional (2D) acquisition devices are used to acquire 2D projection images of the chest and the various organs. Tomographic modalities, i.e., computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound, generate three-dimensional (3D) data of the patients.
