In some cultures men are so 'important' that their womenfolk are obliged to show them unquestioning respect, wait on them hand and foot, and submit to their every whim and commandment. This is obviously not good for women. At its worst it can be indistinguishable from slavery and it is the source of atrocities such as 'dowry killings'. What is perhaps not quite so obvious is that it is very bad for men too. Globally, hundreds of millions of men are incapable of preparing food for themselves, cleaning their dwellings and themselves, or caring for their children and other family members in sickness. They carry the fruits of this culture of completely undeserved entitlement with them into their education, where someone must teach them rather than provide them with learning opportunities, and into the work place, where all they are fit to do is follow rules and collect their salaries. Furthermore it pervades the politics of their countries, which are directionless, inefficient and corrupt. Cafes and bars are full of these useless drones and homes are full of hardworking but unrespected women, but this isn't quite the whole of the story.
