Uberworked and underpaid: How workers are disrupting the digital economy

This neady encapsulates the two strands of Scholz's work on the digital economy. How does platform capitalism shape the digital economy? How does the digital economy reconfigure patterns of work and employment? The growth in 'non-standard' forms of work is characteristic of reconstructed neoliberal labour markets. Scholz confirms that 54 million Americans worked as freelancers, part-timers, independent contractors and day labourers in 2015 (p. 47). Given this reality, the role of platform capitalism and the digital economy is central to discussions of new forms of social organisation and working practice.
