Say you are developing a product, working on an engineering problem, planning a project, making a decision, formulating a strategy, laying out tactics or executing the same. How often do you turn to yesterday's paradigms, knowns, methods, rules, formulas and modus operandi? The response, if we take stock of our past processes, decisions and actions, is "very often." We as engineers, human beings and businesses far too often base today's solutions on yesterday's answers. It is worth reflecting why and at what cost.
