I am a program officer with the Board on International Scientific Organizations in the Policy and Global Affairs Division of the National Academy of Sciences. We do science policy and capacity building nationally and internationally. We collaborate with U.S. government and international agencies, nonprofit organizations, scientific unions, professional societies and foundations.rnOne of our better known scientific capacity-building activities involves sending U.S. mathematicians to developing countries. In Cambodia, for example, the only three mathematicians with doctoral degrees work in government, and faculty members there only have bachelor's degrees.
