John Annes has seen it all. Like his longtime friends in the business of cutting tools and abrasives, Annes has ridden out recessions, battled the ogre of double-digit inflation and seen machine shops come and go. But he's an optimist. Many more of those shops, he says, have stayed viable, always getting work for their few employees, always finding jobs to keep going. Annes owns and operates Rush-More Supply, in Elk Grove Village, an affluent suburb of Chicago. His current location since 1985 is just off O'Hare Airport property, where the streets are named after the airlines that fly into that mammoth terminal.
