Mulberry silkworm seed management in Jammu & Kashmir: Some issues

Sound silkworm seed sector remains the springboard for development of sericulture. In Jammu and Kashmir, silkworm seed production has been a major problem due to various reasons like lack of high yielding disease resistant silkworm races, inconsistent behaviour of parental seed etc. This article discusses the steps to be taken for developing new silkworm hybrids and also to popularize them among farmers. Sericulture is an economic activity which is significantly contributing to sustenance of the people in Jammu & Kashmir. The state is bestowed with congenial climate, vast natural mulberry wealth and traditional social base and existence of strong infrastructure and supported with initiatives of state government.
