摘要

Diseases form a major constraint to sericulture in Jammu and Kashmir. The average cocoon yield per 100 dfls is around 30 kg. Nuclear polyhedrosis is one among the major factors responsible for the low cocoon yield and crop loss. The result of the present survey confirms the above and also points out the reasons for high prevalence of the disease in the area. It is observed that the disease prevalence ranges from 13.85 to 26.03% resulting in maximum potential yield reduction per 100 dfls ranging from 11.020 to 17.850 kg. Rearing of silkworm in dwelling place, improper disinfection and lack of hygiene and rearing silkworm in overcrowded conditions are observed to contribute to high prevalence of the disease in the area.
