摘要

The recent decades have been a witness to a host of social changes across the lines of boundary; the themes of gender equality and woman empowerment acquired new approach and perspectives in development agenda, public debate and policy interventions. While the government of India launched a slew of initiatives to identify and address the issues related to opportunities in education and employment, access to resources, health care and economic sphere, greater attention was paid to utilization of locally available human and financial resources, identifying the people in poorer and vulnerable occupations, upgrading their skills to make them economically self-sufficient as well as productive by involving voluntary organizations in view of the social setting in a vast country like ours.
