Successful implementation of Dhauliganga hydroelectric project, stage-Ⅰ

The 280 MW Dhauliganga hydroelectric project on river Dhauliganga has been successfully implemented by NHPC during the period 2000-2005. The project located in remote location upstream of the town of Dharchula in Uttaranchal State is characterized by the difficult access conditions and unfavourable topography. In spite of many technical hurdles, the project has been successfully commissioned within the scheduled five year period and has started generation from September 2005 after commissioning of the 250 km long, 400 kV Dharchula-Bareilly transmission system executed by Power Grid Corporation of India. The project was financed by Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).
