The reaction of N-(1-ethylpropyl)-3,4-dimethyl-2,6-dinitrobenzenamine with sodium sulphide: Formation of a novel nitrosoaldehyde

Condensation of pendimethalin(N-(1-ethylpropyl)-3,4-dimethyl-2,6-dinitrobenzenamine, 2) with Na_2S/NaHCO_3 (aq.) in methyl alcohol give a novel nitrosoaldehyde (3) by internal redox reaction along with the expected product N-(1-ethylpropyl)-3,4-dimethyl-2-nitrobenzene-1,6-dimine (1). The structure of 3 has been proposed on the basis of IR, UV, ~1H-NMR and mass spectral studies.
