Cement production has undergone a phenomenal increase since Joseph Aspidin invented the material in 1824, about 187 years ago. Within about 25 years of its invention, cement production began on a commercial scale in Britain. Twenty five years later, it reached the United States of America. As its use proliferated in other countries, it arrived on the shores of India in the beginning of twentieth century. Indian manufacturers will be marking a centenary of successful cement manufacturing in the year 2014.
