U.S. trucking companies continue to flex and adapt to changes in the market. After three years of attrition, the industry has bounced back. While many carriers have leaned out their trailer assets, fleets are expanding, and efforts to recruit and retain drivers are in overdrive. Capacity at home remains a concern, and given the recent resolution between U.S. and Mexican authorities over cross-border truck movements, NAFTA trade has received a second wind. Carriers are focusing their attention on meeting the needs of the North American market, with an intrepid few still trawling international borders in search of new business opportunities.
