News From Your IMSA Frequency Coordination Office: 800MHz Rebanding Underway FCC System Build-Out Requirements New FCC License Search Enhancements to ULS
The process of moving existing public safety licensees in the 800 MHz band is under way. The 800 MHz land mobile band is undergoing extensive reconfiguration in an effort to resolve interference problems that have been plaguing public safety systems in the band. As a result, many existing licensees, primarily those in the General Category and NPSPAC bands, will be required to retune their systems to alternative 800 MHz channel assignments (see IMSA Journal Nov/Dec 2004). The costs are being paid by Nextel Communications, Inc. The process began in late June for licensees in regions of the country that were assigned to "Wave 1" in the rebanding plan that was approved by the Commission.
