Greetings and welcome to the March/ April 2008 installment of Simple Circuits. Often in circuit design, we are required to generate exact frequencies for applications other than microcontroller based circuits, in which the microcontrollers themselves contain internal oscillator circuitry. With microcontrollers you have the option of connecting crystals, ceramic resonators, RC networks or driving the oscillator input pin with an external frequency source.
