President's View

As I write this, it is almost 12 months to the day that I first started my period as President of the BKSTS. It is usual for Council to appoint its President in June but although I was nominated, other work obligations meant that I could not take over the role unti later in the year. However in June this year, Council elected me for a further term. At the AGM in May I said that 2003 was a period of consolidation as the Society rebuilt itself after its financial troubles of the past few years. So it has been, and now is the time to push ahead with new initiatives, which are beginning to bear fruit. I am often asked how can individual members best support their society. The answer is simple, by promoting it to friends and colleagues. If every member was able tc find another new member, suggest a sponsor, or pass training or events literature to anyone you know, or those within your organisation who may be interested, we could make huge inroads in a very short time. If we were able to do this, we could increase our office resource. This in turn would lead to more effort to organise more events for members making membership even more valuable.
