The current issue of the IETE Journal of Research, Vol.55, No. 4 (Jul-Aug 2009) contains six articles. These articles present on-going research and development taking place in the broad areas of electromagnetics, signal processing, communication and biomedical engineering. The first paper on "Performance Evaluation of GPR System using Gaussian Pulse Excitation to Cover Entire Frequency Band of Operation" investigates GPR system performance by applying a differential Gaussian pulse excitation to the transmitting antenna. Two types of antennas, namely dipole and bowtie are used in the performance evaluation. Results obtained for antenna impedance and the coupling ratio between the GPR antennae over the entire frequency band using the differentiated Gaussian pulse and discrete Fourier transform are compared with those obtained using sinusoidal sources.
