The card issuing device has a printer (1) with a thermal printing head (3), for printing a bar code on an authorisation card (K) transported through the printer, in accordance with entered authorisation data, with logging of the value of the issued card. The authorisation data to be printed is held in a memory (12), with an electrooptical sensor (9) positioned in the transport path after the printer, for scanning the printed barcode, for comparison with the stored authorisation data, for preventing issuing of a card with incorrectly printed data.
