When document designers in English-speaking countries localizendocuments for readers in other cultures, they should consider what textnorganization will best suit those readers. This study examines theneffect of inductive versus deductive organizational patterns on Japanesenreaders so as to identify what pattern may best suit them. The studynassessed Japanese readers' comprehension of and preference fornexpository text that contains a thesis and is organized eitherninductively or deductively. The results reveal that readers recall moreninformation from inductively organized text. Preference results werenless clear. The implications for native English speaking documentndesigners are discussed at length
