A high-resolution readout from MO-ROM method, which utilizes a difference in coercivity between "rough" and "smooth" areas in a disk is discussed. The readout performance is demonstrated using optical head of 680 nm wavelength and NA 0.55. It is found that the signal from mark length of 0.25 /spl mu/m can be obtained in spite of 1.1 /spl mu/m in spot size (1/e/sup 2/). The observed readout signal is also found to be in reasonable agreement with a simulated result based on MO-ROM readout principle.
