Norway has opened a 350 mile Oslo-to-Stavanger"hydrogen highway"with a hydrogen-powered vehicle rally. The highway is lined with several Statoil-Hydro-built hydrogen filling stations and can handle both fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen-fueled internal combustion vehicles. There are long range plans to link the Norwegian hydrogen highways with similar roads in northern Germany. StatoilHydro reportedly sells hydrogen in Norway for about $6.28 per kilo, which it says is roughly equal in energy terms to the price of petrol. The hydrogen is produced by electrolysis using electricity from hydropower plants.
