On January 28, 2008, President Bush signed the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2008 (NDAA), which included the first-ever expansion of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) (.05). Under the amended law, eligible employees became entitled to take FMLA leave relating to a covered family member's service in the Armed Forces. The NDAA provided two new leave entitlements:rn1. qualifying exigency leave; andrn2. military caregiver leave (also known as covered servicemember leave).
