The theoretical grounding of international human resource management: Advancing practice by advancing conceptualization

World business has undergone massive change in the last half century, driven by technology quite clearly, but also heavily impacted by the globalization that has resulted from the opening of distribution channels (containerized shipping in particular), the growth of productive capacity in formerly under-developed regions, the breakdown of excessive tariffs and other trade restrictions, opening of markets due to the changing political environment (such as the end of the Soviet Union), and a general increase in worldwide global awareness. The inevitable outcome has been the rapid and permeating growth of the global business model.Such change has impacted virtually all functional areas of business operations, including management. One area of business that has seen increasing impact is that of human resource management (HRM); the result is a burgeoning interest in international aspects of the management of human resources in large (and small) organizations.
