Trust In Cooperative Risk Management: Uncertainly And Scepticism In The Public Mind

Trust has been a popular topic of study in the field of environmental and technological risk management for a number of years. For many risk scholars and analysts, as well as for regulators, policy-makers, and managers, trust has become essential to their understanding of risk perception, risk management strategies, and risk communication procedures. In spite of this longstanding research tradition, there is still little agreement on the nature of trust or on how it should be studied. There is great diversity in the concepts and methods of trust studies, making it difficult to integrate the results into useful knowledge for the management of risks. Given this backdrop, there is an increasing demand for more coherent conceptual frameworks, models, theories, and empirical studies, which would make it easier to understand the phenomenon of trust and its relationship to risk issues.
