The Dutch shipbuilding industry produces advanced vessels. It successfully serves specific market niches, and is the world market leader in a number of high tech segments. This is concluded by the Netherlands Shipbuilding Industry Association (VNSI) in its recently issued Annual Report of 1998. The Netherlands Shipbuilding Industry Association (VNSI) represents 95% of the national shipbuilding capacity. The association aims to strengthen cohesion in the entire Dutch maritime industry and works continually to optimise shipyard efficiency. Cost prices at Dutch shipyards are now among the lowest in Europe.
