Norsafe - Jorgensen & Vik A/S - in the Netherlands represented by Apeldoorn based Technoship BV - is one of the oldest boat yards in Norway dating back to the beginning of the last century. Mr Morten Smith-Petersen the owner of the yard took the initiative in 1864 to found Det Norske Veritas. In 1903 Jorgensen & Vik A/S began to manufacture wooden lifeboats. During World War I several partially enclosed lifeboats were delivered. Aluminium was used from 1952 to 1958. Since 1958 fiberglass has been used as building material. At first for open boats and later for totally enclosed lifeboats as well as free-fall boats and rescue boats. Jorgensen & Vik A/S delivered its first free-fall lifeboat in 1986 to the Ugland Shuttel Tanker 'Sarita' servicing in the North Sea.
