The “Rhetorical Condition” as Mediator in the Response of African Americans to Perceptions of Terrorism: Condoleezza Rice as Symbol

Although the ethnicity of government policymakers is not a consideration in their ability to make effective decisions, ethnicity is not barren of influence in how one views life and the schemas that one forms. Both in her role as National Security Advisor and as U.S. Secretary of State during the George W. Bush presidency, Condoleezza Rice played a central role in shaping American foreign and global policy and responses to external terrorism and violence toward Americans and others. Her rhetoric on terrorism and violence uses several modes of argument which revealed her rhetorical and psychological schemas.
