The Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) will become an independent state agency under a new law (HB 431) that takes effect July 1. Currently, OHFA operates as a division within the Ohio Department of Development. Under the new law, OHFA will become a separate entity governed by an 11-member board. Overall, the law will cause no significant changes in the way OHFA currently operates, according to Rita Parise, OHFA's director of programs. The agency will continue to issue single-family and multifamily housing bonds, allocate low-income housing tax credits, offer loan programs, and administer Section 8 rental assistance programs.
