Housing Starts Fall to Lowest Level in Over 10 Years in July

Housing starts fell to their lowest level since January 1997 in July, a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.381 million units. The July rate was down 6.1 percent from the June rate of 1.470 million units. The January 1997 rate was 1.355 million. The single-family starts rate dropped 7.3 percent, from 1.154 million units in June to 1.070 million in July. The multifamily rate was off 1.6 percent, from 316,000 to 311,000.
