Schumer Hopes to Get Compromise Moving-to-Work Reauthorization Added to Senate Voucher Reform Bill

Senate housing subcommittee chairman Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he hopes to get PHAs and tenant advocates to agree on legislation for an expanded Moving-to-Work (MTW) program that can be added to the Section 8 voucher reform bill (S. 2864) introduced by Banking Committee Chairman Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.). At an April 16 hearing on voucher reform, Schumer said he wants to see a greater degree of accountability in the program. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), said that three of the five housing authorities in his state would like the opportunity to enroll in an expanded MTW program. Idaho PHAs could help more people through MTW by adjusting federal funding to community's needs, he said.
