HUD has approved Mississippi's plan to use $350 million in Hurricane Katrina emergency community development block grant funds for a long-term workforce housing plan. Under the plan, the state will provide grants and loans to local communities, nonprofit organizations, and private developers to produce about 12,000 units of affordable housing in Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, and Pearl River counties.
