The United Nations special rapporteur on the right to adequate housing has issued a report on housing conditions in the United States that calls for additional funding for subsidized housing, a moratorium on public housing demolition and disposition, and restoration of the right of first purchase in draft affordable housing preservation legislation.rnThe report by special rapporteur Rachel Rolnik of Brazil was based on a visit to the United States from October 22 to November 8, 2009, that included Washington, New York, Chicago, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Pacoima, Calif., and the Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota.
