Proposed FHA Appraiser Roster Regulations Would Incorporate State Certification Requirement

HUD has issued proposed rules requiring appraisers to be certified, rather than merely licensed, by a state appraisal licensing board in order to be placed on the FHA Appraiser Roster. The regulations were published in the July 14 Federal Register, and comments are due September 12. The licensing requirement was established by the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 (HERA), and HUD says its current practice complies with the statutory mandate. However, the department's regulations still reflect the outdated prior policy permitting the listing of state-licensed appraisers.
