The U.S. auto industry is on the brink of collapse, with two of the not-so-Big Three saved from bankruptcy only by a last-minute federal loan. Now President Obama has made it clear that he not only wants to uphold California's emissions standards, which are more stringent than federal requirements, but also build the fuel-efficient cars of the future here in the United States.
