President Bush's homeland security advisor, Fran Town-send, announced last week that she will step down by early next year. In a statement, Bush called Townsend a "steady leader," saying, "We are safer today because of her leadership." Townsend said she plans to find a private-sector job in New York, though some experts speculate that she may be planning to join Republican Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani on the campaign trail with hopes of becoming attorney general if he is elected. Townsend worked for Giuliani as a federal organized crime prosecutor when Giuliani was mayor of New York City. The White House has not yet named a replacement.
