Officials at VeriTainer have high hopes for the company's VeriSpreader crane-mounted radiation detector after a second round of successful tests at a California port wrapped up in early November, but federal officials say crane-mounted technologies face significant logistical issues that must be overcome before they can be widely deployed. Addressing attendees at the Maritime Security Expo and Conference on Nov. 27-28, VeriTainer officials highlighted the more than 24,000 successful scans during nearly eight months of testing this year at the Howard Terminal in Oakland, Calif., as evidence that the technology is ready for deployment. "It's feasible that every port in every country could have a VeriSpreader," VeriTainer Executive Vice President Lawrence Alioto told HD&S Monitor. "People are very hopeful that this is going to be a big problem solver."
