For the area rug industry, 2020 is not in the rearview mirror. Last year lives on as a survival guide to mastering (not just expecting) the unexpected. "Everyone is looking at everything differently now," said Giovanni Marra, director of marketing and digital strategy for Nourison. The COVID-19 pandemic shaped the rug business for much of the year - for the worst at first, when unessential retailers were forced to shutter their doors to help prevent further spread of the virus; but ultimately for the better as home-bound consumers spent their stimulus checks and discretionary income on home improvements and decor.
