There are early signs of recovery, at least in the luxury home furnishings market, according to the latest survey by Stevens, Pa.-based Unity Marketing. "Since the beginning of 2009, this segment has been spurred to spend more money on their homes," comments Pam Danzinger, president. "Whether drawn to shop by retailer promotions and sales or the need to spruce up their living spaces after spending more time at home because of the recession, affluent shoppers increased expenditures on luxuries for their dwellings in the first quarter. While they spent more on decor, they spent less on experiences like dining out," she says.
