Effects of Conscious Sedation on Circulatory And Respiratory Functions During Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

To evaluate the effects of conscious sedation during gastrointestinal endoscopy, cardiopul- monary monitoring was performed before and during endoscopy in patients who had been sedated (n=105; mean age, 58 years; 67 men and 38 women) and patients who had not (n= 101; mean age, 60 years, 55 men and 46 women). None of the patients had hypertension, ischemic heart disease, of respiratory disease.
