Informed travellers?

When I began working as a traffic reporter there was one major obstacle - we had hardly any information! This was in the early 1980s with no Internet, no mobile phones and certainly not the multitude of high tech real time data sources that exist today. Radio was pretty much the only way that drivers could receive live traffic reports. The number of local stations across the UK was growing rapidly and travel was an important part of the programming.
