The informed traveller in the Midlands

The MATT1SSE real time traffic and travel information system has developed over the past ten years from re-search projects within EC programmes to an operational system. MATTISSE provides real time traffic and travel information on road highways and public transport networks. It is used by 8 local authorities in the Midlands, obtains data automatically from other ITS systems and from the Police who transfer incident information directly to the system. The system is operated and developed by M~3, a Joint Venture between Marconi and Mott MacDonald, two leading companies in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems. M~3 has entered a 10-year Partnering Agreement with the Midlands Local Authorities, which is currently nearing the end of it's first year of operation. To provide a joint public-private overview of the venture, the MATTISSE Partnering Group was created. This group consists of representatives from M~3 and the Midlands Local Authorities, and has met regularly to monitor the progress of the partnership. Within this period a great deal of effort has been made to engage with all stakeholders, for example the existing users of MATTISSE. This included developing relationships with West Midlands Police and the Value Added Service Providers who, along with the core input from Local Authorities, are critical to the long term success of the system.
