The Public Local Inquiry into The proposed M4 Corridor around Newport began in late February, with the Welsh Government setting out its case for a controversial project that has been on and off the books for a quarter of a century. The project is expected to cost around £1 bn, but not every road scheme of this size has a public inquiry. In this case, the inquiry is necessary under the Highways Act 1980, the Acquisition of Land Act 1981 and the relevant regulations, to examine the case for the project and the objections to the Welsh Government's draft scheme and orders.
