Quality Workmanship for Quality Roads

Do we really get what we pay for? As tax-payers, as road users, do we feel like we are receiving a fair deal when it comes to the quality of roads up and down the country? Every single one of us uses the local road network. Whether it's taking children to school, commuting, going to the shops, getting to the train station, enjoying a social life, or simply to join the motorway network to travel further afield; in many places, the roads are simply not working. This is New York City at the turn of the 20th Century. On the left we can see the primary mode of transportation is horse-drawn carriage. Fast-forward only 13 years and we have this image on the right, a city which has undergone a major transportation revolution in a relatively short time with motor-vehicles dominating the scene.
